Liberbyte's Data Exchange, Management, Messaging and Monetization Platform bytEM goes to nine month long commercial pilot where it is used for exchanging data between two leading German research institutes.
Tero Salomaa, Liberbyte's Managing Director sees the pilot as a big step towards bytEM showing the required maturity as a decentralised, open source data exchange platform being now available as docker image installations with AGPLv3 license for any organisations to install and use for instance for data exchanging between different research organisations / institutes. Research organisations which need to formally communicate and exchange data between each other in secure fashion without giving up control or direct access to their data management / IT systems can significantly benefit by adopting bytEM.
It is really about getting bytEM to the required level of maturity and stability from install, to search and exchange of metadata and different types of data and also about understanding how research organisations can benefit from bytEM and how they would like to use bytEM. Few months into the pilot we have seen significant improvements on bytEM and are now rolling out another version v022 during Q1 2026, where we will add many improvements to bytEM based the feedback and learnings from the pilot. We are also of course very keen to further build on this cooperation in 2026 and hope to be able to talk about the results further in the coming months. We are further on planning to fully open up bytEM source code repository in 2026 and are also aiming to launch first open data platforms based on the new version of bytEM. There are a few other cooperation projects we have running on bytEM and we are looking forward to tell more about them with tangible outcomes latest on H2 2026.
